Role Description

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced HR Coordinator to support our staff of ~50 people on a part‐time basis. The role will be remote, requiring approximately 8–10 hours per week. The person in this role will help strengthen HR processes, ensure our policies are up-to-date and aligned with Québec and federal regulations, and support a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture.

  • Manage onboarding and orientation for new employees, interns, and volunteers
  • Maintain and update HR policies, employee handbook, and internal procedures to reflect best practices and legal requirements in Québec/Canada
  • Maintain employee records, ensuring data is kept confidential and secure
  • Support recruitment: job postings, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, reference checks
  • Advise staff and management on HR questions, policy interpretation, benefit-related matters, workplace culture, and compliance issues
  • Assist with performance management and staff development processes
  • Address HR matters as they arise, including but not limited to workplace relations, policy enforcement, and employee well-being
  • Process and coordinate bimonthly payroll in collaboration with finance team

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of HR experience, ideally including experience in a small NGO or non-profit setting
  • Strong knowledge of Québec/Canadian employment laws, labour standards, and HR best practices
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong administrative capability
  • Comfortable working autonomously and managing time responsibly with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, diversity, and the values of The Refugee Centre
  • Ability to communicate fluently in both French and English
  • Experience with payroll and HR software (ADP) is required

Requirements

  • French is the primary working language at the Centre. However, proficiency in English is required for this position in order to communicate effectively with English-speaking staff members at the Centre
