Role Description

This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.

The Intern, Network Operations is responsible for helping develop a working report of locomotive inventory with drill down capability. The incumbent will perform tasks, including:

  • Converting the existing reports and tracking measures into a Locomotive Inventory Management tool (LSS)
  • Adding drill down capability
  • Developing an Intermodal (IMX) Velocity Diagnose tool to identify areas of highest impact to historic IMX velocity

Major Responsibilities

  • Expand the LSS Capabilities to Allow for Drill Down from High Level Snapshot
    • Evaluate current platform
    • Alter as needed to enable a drill down function
    • Determine how far down we can go (division, yard, etc)
    • Create the ability to zone in on a location within the region for loco counts
    • Maintain the accuracy of the current programs reporting
    • Get feedback from MP team and ops
  • Collaborate with Network Operations to Address Traffic Delays
    • Work with Network Operations data team to learn and utilize CN’s tools
    • Use these tools to investigate car movement impacts (car velocity impacts)
    • Learn and expand the LSS platform

Qualifications

  • Post secondary computer sciences (software engineer) would be ideal given computer skills needed to execute above requests
