Role Description

This role involves playing a key role in Indigenous and Stakeholder engagement, building, and maintaining relationships in our projects and operations.

  • Own relationships with leaders and work with partners within and outside Public Affairs, Communications (PACS) to develop engagement strategies, approaches, and tools.
  • Responsible lead for direct engagement with Indigenous communities, building positive relationships and trust, meeting regulatory engagement requirements, and managing related risks.
  • Complete regulatory requirements in consultation/engagement and document outcomes effectively.
  • Provide awareness and mentorship on Indigenous cultural protocols, norms, and politics.
  • Assist stakeholder engagement in the field with individuals, communities, Indigenous groups, and local governments.
  • Lead or assist with the development and implementation of specific engagement plans, including project-specific engagement plans and Regional Engagement Plans.
  • Meet regulatory requirements and improve Enbridge's reputation as a trusted corporate citizen.
  • Lead or assist with contract and agreement negotiations with Indigenous communities.
  • Contribute regional knowledge and policies into Business Development.
  • Assist with the development of Protocol and Engagement Agreements, Letters of Intent, and project agreements.
  • Identify opportunities regarding Indigenous content on Enbridge's projects or operations.
  • Help identify community needs and consider corporate citizenship opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain a well-organized record of contact in the relationship management database.

Qualifications

  • University degree from a related post-secondary program.
  • 7 or more years of directly related work experience in Indigenous and/or stakeholder engagement, preferably in the resources sector.
  • Knowledge and direct experience in engaging with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions.
  • Proven written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to multiple and competing priorities.
  • Able to manage multiple projects under constant deadline pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Preference may be given to a candidate who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit).
  • Experience in consultation, negotiation, facilitation, risk communication, and conflict resolution.
