Microsoft SQL Consultant and Support
We’re a managed service provider (MSP) looking to build a relationship with a reliable Microsoft SQL Server expert for occasional, scheduled assistance. This is not a full-time role—most work is planned in advance and brought in as needed.
What we need help with:
SQL Server upgrades (version upgrades, in-place vs. side-by-side guidance)
Backup/restore strategy and validation (including test restores)
General consulting & best practices (configuration, maintenance plans, DB health)
Performance troubleshooting when needed (indexing, query tuning, waits, tempdb, etc.)
Basic security/hardening guidance (permissions, least privilege, patching approach)
Documentation of recommendations and changes made
Environment (typical):
Microsoft SQL Server (on-prem and/or hosted Windows Server environments)
Supporting SMB clients with line-of-business applications
Remote work with scheduled maintenance windows
What we’re looking for:
Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server administration
Comfortable advising an MSP team and client stakeholders
Ability to provide clear, written recommendations and a simple runbook when applicable
Responsive communication and reliability for scheduled work
Bonus: Experience with HA/DR (Always On, clustering, log shipping), SQL licensing considerations, and monitoring tools
Engagement details:
As-needed hours (typically light volume)
Work is almost always scheduled (rare emergency help)
Remote; we’ll coordinate access and maintenance windows
