Retail Data Analyst | Shopify POS Analysis, Commission Structure & Financial Modeling
We're a specialty retail store looking for a sharp data analyst for a fixed-price, three-milestone project. You'll be working directly with the owner and need to be able to turn around clean, well-presented findings fast.
This is not a hand-holding project. You will request Shopify collaborator access yourself, pull your own reports, and deliver results. We will not be exporting data for you.
What you'll be doing across three milestones:
Milestone 1 - Clean our Shopify POS sales data, identify and flag anomalies, and produce a full margin breakdown by product category. No blended numbers - we need it broken down properly.
Milestone 2 - Redesign our staff commission structure from scratch based on what the data actually shows. Thresholds, rates, and a special event day compensation recommendation - all backed by numbers, not guesses.
Milestone 3 - Build a financial model to help us determine what we can afford to pay a new full-time hire. Scenario modeling at multiple pay points, inventory budget considerations, and a summary report that's readable by a business owner - not just a wall of spreadsheet data.
What we need from you:
Proven Shopify reporting experience - you must be comfortable navigating the backend independently
Strong financial modeling skills in Google Sheets or Excel
Retail or ecommerce background preferred
Clear, professional written English - your findings need to be presented in a format a non-analyst can act on
Data visualization skills - Milestone 3 requires charts and a clean summary report, not just raw numbers
Ability to complete all three milestones within two weeks of Shopify access being granted - this is a firm requirement
Project structure:
Fixed price, three milestones, $900 total. Full project brief with all context, cost inputs, and detailed instructions will be shared privately after hire.
