Winter Operations Recruitment is open

The Roadway Maintenance section maintains approximately 6,500 lane km’s of road right-of-way, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We provide a safe, reliable, roadway network for all roadway users including residents, emergency services, transit, cyclists, and pedestrians. We are responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the City’s roadway network by means of a variety of activities and services including emergency response.

Section Consists of 4 Districts - North, East, South and West.

  • District District North encompasses Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 which has West 5th and Queen Street escarpment accesses.

  • District East encompasses lower Stoney Creek / Binbrook covering Wards 5, 9,10 and 11 westerly to the border roadway Trinity Church Road. It also includes the RHVP, and several escarpment accesses such as Centennial, McNeilly, and Fifty Road with a mix of urban and rural services.

  • District South encompasses Trinity Church Road through to Mount Hope, covering Wards 6, 7, 8, 11, and 14. This includes Kenilworth, Sherman, Claremont and Jolly Cut escarpment accesses with a mix of urban and rural services.

  • District West encompasses Waterdown, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough covering Wards 12, 13, and 15 primarily servicing rural areas.

Driver Abstract

A review of the candidates’ current driving abstract. Candidates must have a current and valid DZ driving license with zero demerits

  • You are not required to provide an abstract. You will be asked to sign an MTO consent form allowing the City to check your abstract

Driving Evaluation Road Test

If you are successful in the interview and Driver abstract check in the recruitment process you will be contacted via email to schedule your driving evaluation road test. Ensure you check your junk and spam folders for emails. The email will contain the following information:

  • Road evaluation road tests will evaluate candidates driving skills. Please note candidates must be able to demonstrate and describe the procedure to inspect

References

If you are successful at all stages of the recruitment process you will need to provide two references. A reference is a person who can speak to your work ethic and past experience. It is someone you have directly reported to. If you do not have two work-related references, you can use a teacher or leader in a volunteer group that you have been involved with.

Vaccine Verification

As a condition of employment, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated or provide proof of valid exemption satisfactory to the employer prior to your start date. You must acknowledge and agree to comply with any future vaccine policy requirements as an ongoing condition of employment at the City of Hamilton.
