Temporary Part-Time Fitness Centre Monitor/Personal Trainer
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, maintain a safe, supervised and clean Fitness Centre for members and drop-in patrons. This includes providing personal training services, conducting orientations, providing assistance and education with equipment, responding to potential accidents/emergencies, equipment cleaning and general mechanical maintenance
Wage- Fitness Centre Monitor: $26.14-$26.95 / Personal Trainer: $33.03-$34.05
Responsibilities:
- Promote a safe and welcoming environment for all fitness levels and abilities
- Monitor fitness centre:
- Return weight training equipment to proper place when left out by users, track usage/attendance in Fitness Centre
- During peak hours, enforce time limits on equipment,
- Regularly inspect and clean equipment including cardio machines weight training equipment and mats
- Complete daily checklists regarding maintenance of equipment, opening/closing procedures and first aid inventory
- Perform fitness appraisals according to CSEP protocols
- Develop, implement, monitor and progress personal training programs for clients
- Enforce and follow City of Oshawa policies and procedures (eg. Fire plan, Accident/Incident reporting, etc.)
- Provide customer service:
- Greet users in a friendly and prompt manner upon entry into Fitness Centre
- Assist patrons with equipment use including proper technique and spotting patrons lifting weights
- Provide clients with equipment orientations to ensure safe operation and use
- Outline personal training services available
- Administer first aid when required
- Ensure all users are aware of and follow rules and guidelines of the fitness centre
- Provide immediate intervention and assistance to ensure safe techniques with equipment use
- Assist Fitness Instructors with setup/takedown equipment for classes, recording class attendance, cleaning equipment after use when necessary, if certified, instruct class in absence of scheduled instructor
Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Possess Personal Trainer Specialist certification (eg. canfitpro, OFC)
- Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology certification is considered an asset
- One (1) year of previous experience in a fitness centre or customer service environment
- Possess and keep current Standard First Aid/CPR 'C' certfication
- Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Attend all staff trainings and meetings
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
